What is the single most biological and chemical stress in the body? SUGAR!
What is sugar? Sugar is a sweet crystalline substance obtained from various plants, especially sugar cane and sugar beet, consisting of sucrose and used as a sweetener in food and drink. Sugar is in almost everything we eat; crackers, soda, cakes, bread, ketchup, Juices, salad dressing, and even gum. These food items are called simple carbohydrates. It is basically everywhere and in every processed food on the grocery shelf.
If we were more aware of all the sugar we put into our bodies, we might better understand the challenges sugar presents. We might be able to lose weight, gain more energy, stress less, resolve digestive issues, heal adrenal fatigue, and we might even be able to overcome binge eating and emotional eating, while balancing hormones…and we might even start really liking our bodies. How would that feel to you?
When we feel better about our bodies and ourselves, we will greatly improve the quality of our lives, look and feel younger, have better sex, and experience that really deep happiness and satisfaction.
What happens when you put sugar into your body?
When you eat simple carbs (bagels, crackers, chips, sodas, white breads, etc.), your body breaks it down really, really, really fast. Your blood sugar spikes and your brain is alerted, and it causes a flight or fight reaction; the message to the brain is danger, danger, danger. Then the pancreas sends out insulin and too much insulin takes too much blood sugar out of the body, the body crashes and now your blood sugar is too low. When this happens you get shaky, you’re spaced out, you're uncomfortable, and your body wants more sugar. It is a viscous cycle – blood levels spike too high and too low and then it starts all over again. This cycle causes biological and chemical stress on the body and has so many negative effects and stressors on the body. So any drastic rise or fall in your blood sugar levels cause your brain to flip out. So this is one of the reasons why we start eating sugar and we quite literally can't stop.
Sugar is the basis of all carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are a macronutrient which primary function is to proved energy to the body, brain and nervous system. Carbs are not all bad, but the more complex the better they are; such as whole grains, veggies, and beans.
If you’re eating sugar regularly, whether you know it or not, you’re on a biochemical and emotional rollercoaster that’s putting your body into a continual stress response state where weight gain, low energy, moodiness, poor health and advanced disease are almost inevitable.
This is why it is so important to buy high quality foods (organic preferably) that literally feed us with all the nutrients and vitamins our bodies’ need, rather than pay for expensive medications or doctor visits.
Now here’s the good news, balancing blood sugar is actually fairly simple and it starts with being aware of what you put into your body. See Attached - The high quality Food Cheat Sheet
A great way to start would be to go on a detox diet. The purpose is to reset your body, remove foods such as all gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, caffeine, yeast, sugar (in the many forms) and fruits. Then start introducing foods back into your diet one by one and noticed how this affects your body, energy, and basically how you feel. If you need help with this process I am happy to help and support you.
Live YOUR life inspired.
